The name Nordea itself is a blend of "Nordic" and "idea." Today, Nordea Norge operates as a branch of the parent company, Nordea Bank Abp, which is headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, a move that was part of the Group's legal structure simplification and re-domiciliation completed in 2018. The Norwegian arm is a full-service universal bank catering to all major customer segments. It is structured under the Nordea Group's four main business areas: Personal Banking, offering a wide range of services to private customers, including mortgages, savings, investments, and daily banking through advanced digital solutions and physical branch offices. Its mortgage market share in Norway is significant and continues to grow. The bank places a strong emphasis on digitalisation, with a high rate of customer engagement through its mobile and online platforms. In a move to significantly strengthen its presence, Nordea announced the acquisition of Danske Bank's personal customer and private banking business in Norway in 2023, a transaction that is expected to further boost Nordea's market share in the Norwegian household sector to around 16% upon closing.
